FAQs
Where are you based and which areas do you cover?
I am based in North/Central London (N7) but am originally from the North East of England. My general catchment area is most of London North of the river and zone 1-2 south of the river but will of course consider locations further afield particularly for off peak dates. Travel charges may apply. Please enquiry for further details.
What happens on a pre-wedding run-through appointment and it is really necessary?
A pre-wedding run-through appointment is not mandatory however it's very much recommended and is an extremely important aspect of a wedding booking. It's a chance to try different styles away from the day itself as everyone's ideas are different and one person's idea of a natural look may not be the same as another etc. Also what you see online may not be possible with your hair/skin type/face shape or you may not like it when it's re-created on yourself therefore to try some looks beforehand can be rather valuable. It also helps to alleviate any possibility of unwanted stress or reactions to products on the wedding day as there will be little to no time for major changes on the day itself. This appointment typically take around 2-3 hours and are conducted Mon-Thurs daytime or evening.
I have a large wedding party, can I book hair and makeup for everyone?
Of course! Myself and my lovely team of highly experienced stylists will happily look after everyone that would like to be included. A detailed schedule will be in place to ensure there is plenty of time to get ready and feel amazing, without being rushed. Depending on the time of ceremony, location and size of booking, additional stylists may be automatically added or can be requested at an additional fee. I am more than happy to offer some different options based on timings and budget before you go ahead and secure the date! (my current record is bride plus 12 for both hair and makeup...can you beat that?)
What hair and makeup qualifications do you have?
I originally trained back in 2002 at Newcastle College, gaining diplomas in beauty and high fashion makeup. I then re-trained in Los Angeles in 2008 at the prestigious makeup school, Elegance International. There I studied many aspects of the industry including special effects, theatrical, high fashion, runway and advanced beauty techniques. I graduated in 2010 with high honours.
How long have you been a hair and makeup artist?
My hair and makeup career spans over 20 years with experience all over the U.K and Los Angeles. I have had the fabulous opportunity to not only work within in wedding industry but also in many parts of the entertainment industry including, films, TV, runway and fashion shows and high fashion magazine shoots to name a few. So you’re in good hands.
I would like to change my hair and makeup for the evening part of the day, would that be possible?
Yes of course. You can book to have a re-style or touch ups to your hair and makeup ready for the evening portion of the day. Alternatively, as a lovely treat for the wedding party and guests, why not book to have a glitter/beauty bar at the venue to offer a fun sparkling twist or hair and makeup touch ups and false lashes to anyone invited to both the daytime and evening events?
What makes you stand out from other artists?
Not only do I have extensive knowledge, experience and training in all aspects of the hair and makeup industry but I also believe that having the ability to make clients feel relaxed, comfortable and at their most beautiful is the key. I often find professionals in this industry to be quite intimidating (even to me) therefore I will go out of my way to make you and your guests feel relaxed and at ease.
I like to follow hair and makeup trends and am often put off by the typical ‘bridal styles’ that you see over and over. Can you create new and unique designs?
I too also love to follow current trends and fashions. I have a Pinterest page that I use to gather hair and makeup inspiration from celebrities, magazines, red carpet and fashion blogs
( http://www.pinterest.com/LauraAnneMUA/ ) and I love nothing more than using these inspirational ideas for my clients and their guests. I also encourage my clients to gather their own images and ideas and bring them along to the trial so that we can create a fabulous, unique and on-trend style together.
I would like to learn some techniques on how to apply my makeup better, can I book to have a lesson?
Yes. I run private and group lessons and masterclasses at my home studio in N7 or in the comfort of your own home or a venue of your choice. Topics such as skin care, foundation, contouring, eye shadow for day time and evening, lipstick application, eye liner, false eyelashes, hair styling techniques and vintage designs to name a few can be discussed.. Why not book to have a masterclass for you and your friends over a bottle of bubbles!
